reimagining historic Jonestown
2015: a new master plan
Expectations were high in Historic Jonestown when Albemarle Square was built as a HOPE VI catalyst for neighborhood revitalization. The 2008 Recession hit hard and vacant properties languished for years. As new businesses and homes flourished in nearby neighborhoods, community leaders began exploring ways to finish the rebuilding process in Historic Jonestown.
Thanks to the initiative and generosity of the Jewish Museum of Maryland, the France Merrick Foundation, and the Goldseker Foundation, the entire neighborhood launched a dynamic, future-oriented visioning and branding process led by a design team partnership from Mahan Rykiel and Arnett Muldrew. Following a year of community conversations and input, the Historic Jonestown Corporation will adopt the Master Plan in September 2015 and shepherd its implementation. |
